Out of all of the images presented, this one really stuck out to me. Perhaps its because it gives us such a personal view into these peoples lives. Somehow, even though everyones faces have a very uniform sadness to them, They all seem to have a definite personality that I've never seen come out in Victorian Era photography, maybe its the honesty of the photo that draws me to it. May Day usually invokes images of a cheery celebration of spring, but what we see here is rather melancholy. We see the dejected expressions on the faces of those present, along with what seem to be wilting plants and flowers.
