Interesting magnet

An interesting magnet that somehow found its way onto our houses fridge. Deals with super-hero gender issues? so I thought I'd scan it in and post it.

May Day by Julia Margaret Cameron

Out of all of the images presented, this one really stuck out to me. Perhaps its because it gives us such a personal view into these peoples lives. Somehow, even though everyones faces have a very uniform sadness to them, They all seem to have a definite personality that I've never seen come out in Victorian Era photography, maybe its the honesty of the photo that draws me to it. May Day usually invokes images of a cheery celebration of spring, but what we see here is rather melancholy. We see the dejected expressions on the faces of those present, along with what seem to be wilting plants and flowers.

Here we see my room, my sanctuary from the hustle and bustle, if you will. Here the viewer might see first that there are many a poster on the wall, I love posters and flyers and collect them and such. That wall is only some of them though, other unseen walls carry many more of the collection. Building on that I love color, and every one of my walls is a different color, making my room a pleasant place to be, at least for me. If one was to continue to the right they might see that my collection of books is quite substantial, I love books and all the knowledge they contain. My desks create an L shape, a perfect space to do all the work I've needed to do over the years. Perhaps someone would notice the unnecessary amount of blankets on the bed, which would tell a whole 'nother story about how my house doesn't do the whole heat thing, which one might also gather from the teeny space heater in the bottom.

A picture that defines me

I chose this picture maybe because it was during the most fun, happiest moments of my life. But perhaps its because of that that I feel it defines me pretty well. This photo was taken while I was in Oregon with my brother. We had just made it to the coast coming from Portland. We were on a long bike trip and it was honestly the greatest experience of my life. Here we see me celebrating on top of a giant hill we scaled, with the ocean in the background, one of the most beautiful views of my life. Here it is that I'm most at home; in the natural world. (preferably the coast) I feel the photo says a lot about me in many ways. Its obviously not around here so it may say something about my love of travel. I'm in the sun on the beach, my favorite place to be, just soaking it all in. All alone on a mound of sand surrounded by the natural world...all I need.

Why do we create alliances and differences in those we meet?

People like things that are similar to themselves, they see it as something that they can better connect with; and when that thing is a person we see an ally because of the similarities. It's almost like some sort of natural survival process. We group with people that are like minded and have the same beliefs/views, so when there is some sort of conflict, those same people will protet the common interest. In opposition to this different people might threaten that common interest and thus aren't let inside the zone of trust.
